THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Engineering is a well-established and modern
multi-disciplinary department, which offers postgraduate opportunities
in a very wide range of topics across the spectrum of engineering
activity. It is one of the largest departments in the University with an
undergraduate population of nearly 600 students and approximately 60
postgraduate researchers. All areas of research in the Department are
supported by well-founded laboratories with state of-the-art equipment
and fully networked computing facilities including major engineering
commercial software. There is excellent technical support provided by
electronic and mechanical engineering workshops.
THE UNIVERSITY
The University of Aberdeen (www.abdn.ac.uk) is a fusion of two ancient
universities: King's College, founded in 1495, and Marischal College in
1593. For over 500 years, Aberdeen has been outstanding in scholarship.
It maintains its tradition with pride and supports a high level of
teaching and learning underpinned by a first class portfolio of research
programmes for more than 13,000 matriculated students. The University
currently has a turnover in excess of £100 million per annum and employs
more than 2,700 staff.
